TrekOnline is the collaborative cooperation between Star Trek fan fiction series for mutual benefit. By visiting our series page, one can see that we sport a diverse membership here, be it the far future of the Trek universe, explorations of the "Lost Era" of Star Trek, a continuation of canon series, or even another take on how one of those series should have played out.
Writing fan fiction and maintaining it as a series has become more and more difficult over the years, as has finding an audience to read it. It was for that reason that several fan series hosted at Nov-Net banded together and formed TrekOnline with the help of the board administrator, Cador Davis (Makaveli). It was hoped that by sharing a common website and messageboard that it would make it easier for anyone interested in Star Trek fan series to find us, and to read our series. But that isn't the only reason TrekOnline was created.
As part of our collaborative cooperation, the members of TrekOnline share advice and help each other to develop our series, or to otherwise improve TrekOnline itself. A committee made up of the executive producers of each series discusses any decision that must be made, whether it concerns the rules and bylaws that govern TrekOnline, updating the website, or adding new members. If any of the members need help, we look after our in as best as we can. One thing we don't do, however, is to dictate how any of the individual series are run. That is left completely up to the respective staffs of each member series.
How do you join? Easy, just ask. You can either request to make a pitch in the Feedback and Bug Reports forum, or send a private message (PM) to Makaveli or CX. We can then give you access to a private forum to make your pitch to the TrekOnline Committee. Before you make a pitch though, there are a few expectations, such as having a plan beyond something like, "it's on a ship, and it goes to another galaxy…" We want details, as much as you can provide, on the series premise, what you're planning for the pilot, and what your plans are for your first season, and what kind of characters you're going to have, which is why a private forum is provided for formal pitches.
Not a script fan? No problem. TrekOnline may have its roots in script, but we have recently opened our doors to prose. We recognize that prose serials will have different requirements than a scripted series, but we are flexible. Pitches can be made in much the same way for anyone interested in joining.
If you are accepted into TrekOnline, as was said earlier, we take care of our own. We'll help you in any way we can, be it series development, or website creation – all you have to do is ask.
Whether you’re interested in joining, or in finding something entertaining to read, we hope that you find what you’re looking for here.
